What is CIGMAP?
The International Centre for Governance and Political Marketing (CIGMAP) was created to re-focus the study and research of democratic governance and policy making. It adds a new dimension to the traditional approach to politics as a social science, by incorporating the innovations in digital era communication tools and how they are used to get political messages across.
The functioning of democratic societies depends in large part on how politicians and citizens communicate with each other. The impact of events in society and the effects of policy making on voters’ perceptions of the institutions and people who represent them are conditioned by the way these are transmitted by the media. The rise in the use of social networks, the new ways of interactively accessing audio-visual productions and the ever-increasing use of marketing techniques in politics mean that communication has become even more crucial in the exercise of politics globally.
Aims of CIGMAP
CIGMAP combines university teaching, research, ideas and consultancy in a single institution, capable of articulating these activities in the various areas linked to political governance – policy making, the creation of political discourse and identity, the running of political campaigns, relations with the media, lobbies or interest groups, geo-strategy, leadership, negotiation, defence and security policies – with special attention to communication and political marketing.
Through the varied and broad academic programmes it offers, CIGMAP trains its students to be excellent professionals and/or academics, endowed with the strict ethical code and values of the SEK Institution. We try to ensure that our students feel part of the Institution for the rest of their lives so that they can always contribute to, and count on the support of CIGMAP’s resources, knowledge, etc.
Thanks to its extensive network of experts and its academic infrastructure, CIGMAP offers a top quality consultancy service in a wide range of fields.
CIGMAP fosters doctoral theses and the creation and development of research teams. Furthermore, it will promote and, if possible, publish the work projects undertaken in articles and publications.
